Two wins in one day!
The Washington Island Bucks soccer team traveled to Stockbridge to take part in a triangular tournament on Saturday, October 8. The first game of day was Stockbridge versus Bay City Christian. Bay City won the game 1-0 with a goal in the final five minutes of the game.
Next, Washington Island took on the Bay City Christian Bobcats. The teams were evenly matched and the game remained scoreless going into the second half. Shots attempts and great passing by Collin, Ashlynn, Kinsey, Gretta, Mason had the Bucks constantly knocking on the door, but solid goalie skills by Bay City kept the Bcuks scoreless. Strong defense by Aidan, Jaxin, Tommy, Magnus, and Fisher and goalkeeper, Spencer, held off the offenses pushes by the Bobcats. Finally, with less than thirteen minutes remaining in the game, Bennett attempted a shot from the left side of the field, his shot was deflected, but Collin was able to recycle the ball with a pass towards the top of the 18 yard box to Cameron, who delivered a strike to the lower right corner of the goal for the one and only goal of the game. The Bucks won 1-0.
The Washington Island Bucks had a short fifteen minute break before they took on the Stockbridge Indians. Last month, the Bucks and Indians battled in a match that ended in a tie game, 1-1. This game, the Indians struck first when their #1 broke through the defense and scored halfway through the first half. The score remained 0-1 at halftime. The second half, Spencer, traded his goalie shirt to Tommy and joined the defense with fresh legs. The Bucks tied up the game with 13:46 remaining in the game with a perfectly paced through ball from Bennett to Cameron, who used the outside of his right foot to slice the ball through the goalie arms and into the lower right corner of the net. The Bucks played with renewed energy after tying up the game, and had a number of shots on goal, keeping the ball on the Indians side of the field a majority of the time. The Indians were called for a foul, resulting in a direct free kick just outside the far left side of the 18 yard box. Cameron buried the perfect shot in the upper right hand corner of the goal with two minutes left in the game. The Bucks held on to win 2-1.
Winning both games of the tournament was a great way for the Bucks to end their season, and for the seniors, Aidan and Spencer, to end their high school soccer careers.
The Washington Island Bucks ended their season with nine wins, 2 loses, and 1 tie for a very successful season.

The Bucks take another win!
The Washington Island soccer team traveled to Luxemburg Casco in a steady downpour that continued throughout the entire game. The LC Spartans JV team and the Washington Island Bucks teams were completely water logged just doing their warm ups. The wet conditions were a challenge right away for the Spartans goalie, he mishandled a shot by Fisher off a pass chipped over the defenders’ head from Cameron for the first goal of the game. This was quickly followed up by Fisher tapping a through pass to Collin which he buried in the lower left hand corner of the net for a second goal. After the Spartans were called for dangerous play in the goal box, Collin drilled a penalty kick back to his favorite lower left hand corner of the goal to extend the Bucks’ lead to 3-0. The Bucks dominated the entire first half with great field spacing and precision passing.
Collin completed his hat trick with a long shot into the upper left corner of the goal, with the Bucks’ lead extended to four goals. The scoring was all Washington Island with two additional goals in the first half, Tommy assisting Bennett and then Cameron scoring off an assist from Bennett. The defense of Aidan, Magnus, Jaxin and Gretta and multiple good saves by goalie, Spencer, kept the home team scoreless until shortly before halftime when #16 for the Spartans scored their first goal. The Bucks went into halftime with a dominating 6-1 lead.
The heavy rain continued into the second half, but the Bucks showed no signs of stopping. The Islanders continued to beat their opponents to the ball with strong play from Kinsey and Ashlynn at the midfield and forward positions. A corner kick from the right side put in play by Collin allowed for shot opportunities by Fisher, then Ashlynn, finally put in from the left side of the goal by Mason as the Spartans couldn’t clear the ball from the front of their goal. Shortly after that, the Bucks couldn’t clear the ball cleanly from their goal area and the Spartans were able to earn a goal off of Bucks’ friendly fire bringing the score to 7-2. The final goal of the game was started by a pass from the right side of the field from Bennett to his brother Mason to Fisher who shot across the goal to the lower left hand corner. After shaking hands following the 8-2 victory, all the Washington Island team members ran down the field and slid forward on their bellies through the soggy grass to celebrate the end of a very long, wet, windy game. The team remains undefeated after their third game of the season.
